As autumn leaves give way to the first flakes of December, Walibi Belgium transforms its aisles for its now unmissable winter season: Walibi Winter. For this 3rd edition, the famous Wavre amusement park has pulled out all the stops to offer an immersive experience for families and "parkfans" alike.
A Magical Immersion from the Entrance
As soon as you pass the gates, the tone is set. Walibi Belgium has redoubled its efforts on theming with a multiplication of decorated trees and twinkling garlands. The sound atmosphere, mixing Christmas classics and visitors' laughter, immediately plunges you into the holiday spirit. This year, the park is built around four major thematic zones: Frozen Land, Twinkle Town, Festive Tropic, and the impressive winter version of Dock World.
Unmissable Activities at Walibi Winter
The Frozen Land Ice Rink: Skating and Laughter
The beating heart of the Frozen Land zone is undoubtedly its indoor ice rink. It is the ultimate family meeting point. The organization has been optimized for this edition: a smooth circulation system allows you to collect your skates by size and hit the ice without the usual wait.
The Park Trips experience: The ice is particularly well maintained this year. While some of us tested the hardness of the rink with a memorable fall (to be discovered in our video!), the pleasure remains total. For children, character-shaped skating aids are available to help them learn balance while having fun.
The "Enchanted" Show: Magic on Ice at the Tiki Theater
The season's flagship show has moved to the Tiki Theater, located in the Exotic World zone. This move is excellent news: it offers a more professional staging and better thermal comfort for the audience. Enchanted is a dynamic figure skating show, blending high-level acrobatics and choreography set to revisited Christmas tunes. A perfect poetic moment to take a break between two thrill rides.
Meet Santa Claus at Polar Playground
A must for families, the Polar Playground hosts Santa's home. The decor has been redesigned to offer a warm setting for souvenir photos. The smell of hot chocolate and thematic trees create a bubble of sweetness amidst the park's hustle and bustle.
Dock World: The Highlight of the Light Show
This season's big curiosity was: how would the new Dock World zone celebrate its first Christmas? The result is final: this is where the nocturnal magic works best. The industrial and port structures lend themselves magnificently to the sophisticated light displays installed for the occasion.
At nightfall, the facade of the La Turbine attraction lights up to become a dazzling light cascade. Colored projections enhance the waterfalls and the tracks, creating a unique atmosphere in Belgium. Details like boat ropes integrated into the trees prove the care taken in theming this new zone.
Focus on the Interactive Attraction: Popcorn Revenge
Even in winter, indoor attractions remain safe bets. This is the case for Popcorn Revenge, the interactive attraction located in the Karma World zone.
The concept: Armed with your laser guns, you must aim at the popcorn invading the cinema screens. It's a fun and competitive experience, ideal for warming up.
Observed improvements: We noticed that the park is taking advantage of the season to fine-tune the experience. Work on the smoke effects in the tunnel and screen maintenance guarantee optimal interactivity for players. It's the perfect time to try and beat your personal record!
Winter Gastronomy: The Park Trips Food Test
Walibi Winter is also a culinary journey. The Christmas Village and the event chalet facing the Loup-Garou offer mountain specialties:
- The Tartiflette (€11.90): A generous dish, served hot. Although we found the cheese lacked a bit of character at times, it is absolute comfort after an hour spent in the cold.
- Hot Camembert (€7.90): Melting and tasty. Our expert tip: don't hesitate to ask for an extra piece of bread to fully enjoy the tasting!
- The Mountain Sandwich (€10.90): The great success of our test. Hearty and typical, it's the ideal choice for those who want to eat on the go without sacrificing quality.
Thrills and Night Illuminations
Visiting Walibi in winter offers a brand new perspective on roller coasters. The park's iconic coasters take on another dimension once the sun goes down.
- Loup-Garou: This mythical wooden coaster sparkles with a thousand lights. The sensations are drier due to the cold, but the night experience is incomparable.
- Dalton Terror: The free-fall tower is transformed into a giant Christmas tree thanks to a vertical light show. The view at the top of the entire illuminated park is the best gift of this visit.
- Calamity Mine: A family ride that becomes magical under the spotlights, with a speed that seems tenfold in the crisp December air.
Souvenirs and Merchandising: Take a Bit of Magic Home
A visit to Walibi Winter wouldn't be complete without a stop at the park's shops, which offer exclusive items for the occasion. If you're looking for a souvenir to decorate your tree or a small gift for a loved one, this year's selection is particularly attractive.
- The Walibi Christmas Bauble: The ultimate collector's item. Available for €16.90, it is elegant and allows you to keep a lasting memory of this 3rd edition. Check the condition in-store, but it's a very beautiful decorative object.
- The Walibi Winter Keychain: For a tighter budget, you can fall for the small keychain featuring the famous mascot, available for around €6.90. A nice little wink to hang on your keys or bag.
The Park Trips tip: Shops are often crowded at the end of the day just before the park closes. If you fall in love with the collector Christmas bauble, don't wait until the last minute to buy it!
The Park Trips Verdict: Why Choose Walibi Winter?
The park successfully transforms its 40 hectares into a warm cocoon despite winter temperatures. We particularly appreciate the efforts made on the fluidity of the queues (such as the enlargement of the Buzsaw queue) and the quality of the Dock World sets.
What we loved:
- The spectacular light displays on the facades of Dock World.
- The addictive and interactive side of Popcorn Revenge, perfect in winter.
- The artificial snow falling on Twinkle Town, creating a cinematic atmosphere.
What could be improved:
- The sides/bread accompanying some dishes at the Christmas market.
- The closure of some water attractions, although understandable.
Conclusion
Walibi Winter has now established itself as an unmissable event to end the year in style. Whether you're there for the competition on Popcorn Revenge, the acrobatics of the Enchanted show, or simply to admire Dock World under the spotlights, the magic is there.
