We were lucky enough to be invited to the official opening of Dock World at Walibi Belgium on April 5, 2025. After seeing the videos and first photos, we couldn't wait to discover these new features with our own eyes because the level of immersion seemed impressive. Spoiler alert, it's even better in real life!
New Dock World area
In 2025, Walibi Belgium celebrates its 50th anniversary by unveiling Dock World, an immersive themed area affectionately nicknamed "Port du Wavre". This new space transports visitors into the industrial atmosphere of a seaport, with elements such as rusty cranes, stacked containers, and aging warehouses. The atmosphere is enhanced by careful details: fishing nets, buoys, water basins, and a soundtrack evoking port activity. This total immersion is designed to evoke a once prosperous port, now frozen in time.
At the heart of Dock World, an imposing 15-meter lighthouse, nicknamed "Port du Wavre", serves as an iconic landmark (still under construction). Visitors can explore structures resembling a fish cannery, notably the Hungry Sharky restaurant, set up in stacked containers, offering original fish'n'chips or shrimp burgers. Another dining option, the Light House Café, provides a relaxed setting for a gourmet break. The area's shops, grouped in the central Cannery Factory hall, allow visitors to purchase themed souvenirs, enhancing the immersive experience of this port area.
New Mecalodon roller coaster
The flagship attraction of Dock World is undoubtedly Mecalodon, the largest family coaster in the Benelux. Designed by manufacturer Gerstlauer, this family coaster offers a 925-meter track punctuated by three electromagnetic launches (LSM) and 14 moments of weightlessness (airtimes). The trains, stylized as mechanical sharks, reach a maximum speed of 65 km/h, offering thrills suitable for a wide audience, including children measuring at least 1 meter. The track winds around the park's pond, with sections right at the water's edge, reinforcing the maritime immersion.
Mecalodon is distinguished by its three "Top Hats": hills 14 to 15 meters high that provide passengers with floating sensations. The absence of inversions makes this roller coaster accessible to families, while still offering dynamic sensations thanks to successive accelerations and changes of direction. This attraction fits perfectly into Walibi Belgium's strategy of offering experiences that are both immersive and suitable for all ages.
Rethemes including La Turbine
Dock World is not limited to the introduction of Mecalodon. Several iconic park attractions have been rethemed to blend harmoniously with this new port area. Psyké Underground regains its original name, Turbine, and adopts the aesthetic of a disused port hangar, in keeping with the industrial atmosphere of Dock World. Flash Back, the well-known water attraction, also benefits from a complete retheme to align with the maritime theme.
Children's attractions are not left out: Dragon Boat becomes Stormy, replacing the drakkar boats with sailboats, while Salsa y Fiesta is transformed into Tous en boîte, evoking a crab cannery. These rethemes demonstrate Walibi Belgium's desire to offer a coherent and immersive experience, where each attraction contributes to the overall story of the area.
Our general opinion on Walibi Belgium's 2025 novelties
With the opening of Dock World and the introduction of Mecalodon, Walibi Belgium reaches a new stage in its development, consolidating its position among the leading European amusement parks. The attention to detail, both in the design of the new area and in the retheming of existing attractions, reflects a strategy focused on immersion and visitor satisfaction. The 35 million euro investment for this project highlights the park's commitment to offering quality experiences, combining thrills and rich thematic universes.
Once again, Compagnie des Alpes strikes hard with a rich universe, attractions that fit into this universe, and touches of humor that characterize them. The transformation of the Walibi parks continues for our greatest pleasure, and we look forward to seeing what the future holds for the entrance area and what is being prepared between Loup Garou and Vampire.
