Le 2ème parc du voyage, Six Flags Magic Moutain, le parc avec le plus de montagnes russes au monde

The 2nd park of the trip, Six Flags Magic Mountain, the park with the most roller coasters in the world

In our September 2022 trip to California, we started with a day at Universal Studios Hollywood before heading further north of Los Angeles and continuing with a park that holds the world record for the number of roller coasters. With many different models, it's a park not to be missed during a trip to California.

Our favorite roller coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain

Let's start with a review of the coasters rather low on the list. Those we don't mention are really at the bottom, either because they are disappointing, too generic, and of no real interest (yes, yes, it happens, but you still have to ride them for the credits).

West Coaster Racer is very disappointing, the direction changes in a Premier Rides train are horrible, and the waiting time in the middle of the circuit is far too long. Apocalypse is a super intense wooden roller coaster, not very high, quite short, not bad at all. Batman, Riddler are good roller coasters but nothing exceptional compared to the top 5. The New Revolution is still just as nice because it's retro but still works just as well with its loop and gentle descent, it's great!

If we had to pick just a few, what would be our top 5 coasters at Six Flags Magic Mountain?

Full Throttle

Full Throttle is a launched roller coaster that held the record for the world's tallest loop. Its layout is quite short, and we would have liked one more element after the last hill, but well, it's already very good. After the first launch and this enormous loop, a final inversion takes you into a tunnel where you stop. You then go backward for several launches before passing over the loop again and returning to the station.

It's short, not very comfortable, but it's powerful and unique in this format.

Tatsu

Tatsu is a flying roller coaster known for being quite extreme. If you've ridden Manta at Sea World Orlando, this is another level up. Despite its age, it remains a good, quite fluid roller coaster. But hold on tight in the Pretzel Loop because you'll feel a lot of pressure and might get quite close to blacking out before recovering.

Arm yourself with patience because the throughput is not very good, so ride it rather at the beginning of the day to avoid a too-long wait. Last tip, stretch out your arms, you'll truly feel like you're flying.

X2

Although it's not comfortable, this type of roller coaster is so rare that we had to put it in our top. On this roller coaster, you sit on a rotating seat whose rotation is controlled. The seats are on either side of the track like a Wing Coaster. The rotation of the seats allows for quite improbable ride positions.

The harness is super strange, like putting on a jacket. After checks, the system is launched, the seat goes into free position, then comes a first turn and the lift hill which ultimately happen backward. During the ascent, the view over the whole park is great. Then comes the arrival at the top of the lift and the first drop with the seat pivoting to perform this first fall face towards the ground, impressive. The speed is crazy and accentuated by the seat rotations with a complete loss of bearings. Turns and hills follow one another, and at the end of the ride there's a very bad hill and a horrible vibration that really hurts your skull before reaching the final brakes.

It's very unique, but it's a must-do!

Twisted Colossus

This is an RMC hybrid roller coaster that replaces a well-known wooden roller coaster seen in the opening credits of 'Step by Step'. The layout is really great because it's a dueling coaster where you first ride the right track and then the left track, almost as if you were doing 2 rides for the price of one. The layout is very good right from the start with many small, super fun hills even before the lift. The hills and inversions follow one another on this very good roller coaster.

Better or much better than Zadra at Energylandia? We'll let you judge and tell us. On our end, we had more fun on Twisted Colossus even though it's not as tall or as impressive.

Wonder Woman, Flight of Courage

Finally, our favorite. OMG! Our first single rail coaster! It all starts with a very well-designed continuous loading and unloading system. The train doesn't stop in the station to speed up throughput, and it works really well. The riding position is not the most comfortable, and hold on tight with your thighs because the hills eject you strongly, and it's your legs that hold you back.

It's extremely smooth, it's powerful. There's not a second to catch your breath. In short, it's simply excellent. For our first single rail, it's also the longest in the world, we're thrilled!

Our general opinion on Six Flags Magic Mountain

This amusement park is clearly intended for fans of big roller coasters. There are a few flat rides and attractions for younger visitors, but this park is more suitable for a teenage or young adult audience. With an impressive number of roller coasters and especially with the diversity offered, it's a treat for park fans. However, don't count on the theming to escape. The roller coasters are placed next to each other with the bare minimum of theming elements.

The employees were all super friendly and pleasant, which is a very good point for this park.

A slight downside is the management of the food points, which quickly become saturated during meal times, so don't hesitate to use the mobile ordering offered by the park to save time during the day.

Finally, don't forget that it can get very hot in California. This park is not really suitable for the hottest days with only one water attraction and very large paved areas with little shade, so prepare your sunscreen, caps, and water bottles.

We were able to enjoy the park with very few people, so don't hesitate to visit in September before the busy Halloween period.
