Nestled on a wooded hill just 20 kilometers south of Oslo, Tusenfryd ("Thousand Joys" in Norwegian) is the country's largest amusement park. Managed by the Parques Reunidos group, this park has a unique topography: it is built on a rocky mountainside and amidst trees, which creates a very special atmosphere (and some memorable climbs for your legs!).

If you're looking for big rides in Scandinavia, this is a must-visit stop on your road trip.

Must-See Attractions

Major Coasters

  • SpeedMonster: This Intamin launch coaster is the park's visual star. From the start, you're propelled from 0 to 90 km/h in 2.2 seconds to climb a Norwegian Loop (a rare inversion that literally encircles the park's entrance escalator). The interactions with the terrain and vegetation are excellent.
  • Storm - The Dragon Legend: A unique suspended inverted coaster (Gerstlauer Inverted Coaster) with a triple launch (forward, backward, then final propulsion). It's compact, intense, and very smooth.
  • ThunderCoaster: A huge Vekoma wooden coaster. It has excellent speed and offers big airtime moments, but be warned: it's starting to show its age and shakes quite a bit. Ride in the front of the train to minimize vibrations!

For the Whole Family & Children

The park doesn't forget the little ones with two dedicated areas well integrated into the forest: Frydskogen and Barnas Fryd. You'll find teacups, small trains, and mini-coasters like Dvergbanen (Norway's smallest roller coaster track). Also, don't miss Thor's Hammer, an interactive indoor 3D simulator (Dark Ride) based on Norse mythology, ideal if it starts to rain.

Tips

  • Watch your legs! The park is built on very steep terrain. There's a huge escalator to access the upper part, but expect a lot of uphill walking. Sturdy strollers and good sneakers are a must.
  • Weather Management: We're in Norway! Even in the middle of summer, a shower can quickly arrive and cool down the atmosphere. Bring a waterproof windbreaker. The coasters operate in the rain, but the speed makes the drops sting your face!
  • Badeland (The Water Park): If you visit between mid-June and mid-August, access to the outdoor water area Badelandet is often included or available for a small extra charge. It's a nice place to relax if it's exceptionally hot.
