Norway is not just the land of majestic fjords, the Northern Lights, and breathtaking hikes. It's also a surprising destination for park lovers! While the offering of big roller coasters is more intimate than in its European neighbors, Scandinavia knows how to integrate well-maintained amusement parks into spectacular natural settings.
Between large water parks, immersive experiences for children, and themed coasters, here is our selection of Norwegian must-sees to include in your next road trip.
Our selection of the best parks in Norway
Tusenfryd – The temple of local thrills
Located just twenty kilometers from Oslo, Tusenfryd is simply the largest amusement park in the country. This is where the heart of "coaster-enthusiasts" beats in Norway.
- Why we love it: The park offers a very pleasant wooded terrain and boasts over 30 attractions. Thrill-seekers will head for SpeedMonster (an Intamin launch coaster that propels you from 0 to 90 km/h in the blink of an eye) or the very surprising Storm - The Dragon Legend.
- The park is very weather-dependent and some paths on the hills are steep! For families, the Barnas Fryd and Frydskogen areas are true havens of peace, very well designed for toddlers.
Dyreparken (Kristiansand) – The ultimate family experience
More than just a park, Dyreparken is a true national institution in the far south of the country. It is the most visited tourist site in Norway, combining a huge zoo and a theme park.
- Why we love it: The immersion is total. The park houses Kardemomme by (Cardamom Town), a faithful recreation from the tales of Thorbjørn Egner, but especially the pirate world of the famous Capitaine Sabeltann (Sabretooth). Children love meeting the characters in person.
- Don't miss adding access to Badelandet, their huge water park (indoor and outdoor). If you want to experience it to the fullest, we recommend staying directly at Abra Havn, the themed hotel village designed as a pirate hideout. A real success!
Bø Sommarland – The Scandinavian water slide paradise
Nestled in the magnificent Telemark region, Bø Sommarland is simply one of the largest purely water parks in Northern Europe.
- Why we love it: It features massive and unique slides, heated pools (essential!), and especially superb artificial waves for surfing. The atmosphere is ultra-festive during the peak summer season.
- Be aware that the opening window is quite short (only during the summer months). It's the ideal stop to break up the journey and cool off the whole family after a long drive through the mountains.
