History and Development
The Shanghai Disney Resort project was officially announced in 2005. Negotiations and planning took several years, involving The Walt Disney Company and the Shanghai Shendi Group. Construction began in 2011. The resort opened its doors to the public on June 16, 2016. It was one of the largest foreign investment projects in Shanghai. The development included the creation of dedicated transportation infrastructure to facilitate access.
The Resort's Offerings
The heart of the resort is the Shanghai Disneyland theme park, which includes several themed lands such as Fantasyland, Adventure Isle, Treasure Cove, Tomorrowland, Gardens of Imagination, and Disneytown. The park offers a variety of attractions, shows, character meet-and-greets, and parades. The hotel offerings consist of two distinct hotels: the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel, a luxury hotel, and the Toy Story Hotel, a more economical option. The Disneytown district is an entertainment, shopping, and dining area adjacent to the park, accessible without an entrance ticket. The resort also includes Wishing Star Park, a large park with a lake, offering a space for relaxation and recreation.

Shanghai Disney Resort is located in the Pudong district of Shanghai. It is well-served by public transport, including a dedicated station on Line 11 of the Shanghai Metro. The surrounding area is under development and includes infrastructure supporting the resort. This includes main roads and visitor reception facilities. The location was chosen for its accessibility while allowing for large-scale development. The resort is integrated into the development plan for the Pudong region.
