While Fuji-Q Highland often claims the crown for adrenaline in Japan, its Western rival, Nagashima Spa Land, stands just as tall. Located on a man-made peninsula in Kuwana, near Nagoya, this park is a literal forest of steel. With a skyline dominated by the colossal Steel Dragon 2000, it has become a cult destination for "coaster enthusiasts" worldwide.

The Titans of Steel: World-Record Rides

Nagashima Spa Land is legendary for the density and quality of its roller coasters. Here are the masterpieces that make the trip worthwhile:

Steel Dragon 2000: The Eternal Legend

Built to celebrate the Year of the Dragon in 2000, this Giga Coaster is an industry monument. At 2,479 meters long, it still holds the world record for the longest roller coaster ever built. The ride lasts nearly four minutes, an eternity in the world of thrill-seeking. The lift hill takes you to 97 meters high before plunging you at speeds exceeding 150 km/h. The sense of freedom is unparalleled, especially with the modern B&M floorless trains.

Hakugei: The Hybrid Masterpiece

Formerly a classic wooden coaster called White Cyclone, the ride was completely transformed in 2019 by RMC. Reborn as Hakugei (The White Whale), it is now a hybrid coaster combining a wooden structure with steel tracks. It offers absolute smoothness, vertical inversions, and some of the most intense "airtime" moments in the world. For many experts, it is currently the best roller coaster in Japan.

Acrobat: The Glide of the Manta Ray

This "Flying Coaster" provides a unique sensation: after boarding, the seats tilt 90 degrees, placing passengers face-down. You fly through the layout like a superhero or a manta ray gliding over water. With tight loops and near-misses over waterfalls, Acrobat is both a visual and sensory marvel.

Expert Tips for 2025

  • Access: Direct buses run from Nagoya Station (50 mins) and Chubu Centrair Airport.
  • Fast Pass: Skip-the-line tickets are sold individually inside the park. Essential for Steel Dragon and Hakugei on weekends.
  • Wind Warning: Due to its coastal location, the park is very wind-sensitive. High rides may close for safety. Check the Park Trips app for live status.
