Lagoon Amusement Park, located in Farmington, Utah, is one of the oldest and most beloved amusement parks in the United States. Offering a combination of classic and modern rides, as well as water attractions and shows, it attracts visitors from across the region and beyond, representing a major destination for family entertainment.

History and Development

Lagoon first opened its doors in 1886, initially as Lake Park, on the shores of the Great Salt Lake. Due to the receding waters of the lake, the park was moved to its current location in Farmington in 1896. Over the decades, Lagoon has overcome challenges, including a major fire in 1953 that devastated much of the park but was followed by rapid reconstruction and significant modernization. The park is renowned for its ability to preserve its historic charm while integrating new attractions, maintaining a balance between the past and the present. It is one of the few amusement parks to have such a long and continuous history under predominantly family management, which gives it a unique character.

Lagoon Amusement Park's Offerings

Lagoon Amusement Park offers an extensive range of rides, from thrilling roller coasters to classic family attractions and children's play areas. Among its flagship attractions are historic roller coasters like The Roller Coaster, one of the oldest wooden roller coasters still in operation, as well as modern rides. The park's offerings also include Lagoon A Beach, a water park integrated into the amusement park's admission price, featuring slides, wave pools, and aquatic play areas. For accommodation, Lagoon offers a campground and RV park, the Lagoon RV Park and Campground, located right next to the park, providing sites for tents and RVs. Additional entertainment, such as live shows, arcade games, and various dining options, complete the visitor's experience. The park also hosts special seasonal events like Frightmares during the Halloween period.

The Surroundings

Lagoon Amusement Park is located in Farmington, a city in Davis County, Utah, boasting a picturesque setting at the foot of the Wasatch Mountains and near the Great Salt Lake. Its location is ideal, just about a thirty-minute drive north of Salt Lake City, the capital of Utah. This allows visitors to combine a day at the park with exploring Salt Lake City's cultural and historical attractions, including Temple Square, various museums, and a vibrant culinary scene. The surrounding area also offers numerous opportunities for outdoor activities, such as hiking, biking, and, in winter, skiing and snowboarding at the renowned ski resorts of the Wasatch Mountains. The proximity to I-15 makes the park easily accessible from other cities in Utah and neighboring states.
