Does the magic of Christmas exist outside of Disneyland Paris? As unconditional fans of Mickey and his friends, we decided to put this question to the test by embarking on a magical weekend at Phantasialand, in Germany, during the Wintertraum season. Get ready to be amazed, because our adventure was filled with laughter, thrills, and surprising discoveries!

The Matamba Hotel: An Unforgettable African Immersion

Our journey began with a total immersion in the African atmosphere of the Matamba Hotel. From the moment we arrived, we were transported to another world. The entrance hall, decorated with a magnificent Christmas tree, immediately plunged us into the holiday spirit. Our spacious room offered a breathtaking view of the Black Mamba, a promise of thrills to come. The hotel, although without a pool, managed to charm us with its unique atmosphere, its immersive theme, and the size of its rooms. We particularly appreciated the direct access to the park's African area, a real asset for fully enjoying the Phantasialand experience. The hotel's African buffet was also an excellent culinary discovery, adding an exotic touch to our stay.

Thrills and Winter Magic at Phantasialand: Our Top 3 Attractions

Phantasialand during Wintertraum is a perfect mix of adrenaline and winter magic. We braved the cold to test the park's most iconic attractions, and here is our top 3:

  1. Black Mamba: Our first experience was the Black Mamba, a smooth and comfortable coaster despite the cold. Thrills are guaranteed!
  2. Winjas Fear & Force: These twin roller coasters offer different experiences. We preferred the "Fear" track for its varied elements and slightly longer duration. Using the hotel's fast pass proved essential to avoid long queues.
  3. Taron: Even in cold weather, Taron remains a must-do attraction. The acceleration and sharp turns provide unique sensations.

We also tested other attractions like Talocan (an intense experience!), Raik (short but effective), Mystery Castle (a bit disappointing without the queue actors), and Maus au Chocolat (a safe bet). The Adventure Trail, new to us, turned out to be a fun family attraction, particularly enjoyable in warm weather thanks to its water elements.

Wintertraum: A Spectacle for All the Senses

Beyond the attractions, Wintertraum at Phantasialand is a magical atmosphere. Millions of lights illuminate the park, creating a fairytale atmosphere. Sumptuous Christmas decorations add a festive touch to every corner. The night show, with its catchy music and perfectly synchronized pyrotechnic effects, is a true enchantment for the eyes and ears. We also enjoyed the winter treats offered in the park, a comforting break between two attractions.

Phantasialand or Disneyland Paris? Our Verdict!

So, did Phantasialand manage to dethrone Disneyland Paris in our Disney fan hearts? The answer is more nuanced. Phantasialand offers a unique experience, with impressive thrill rides and a magical winter atmosphere. The Matamba Hotel was a real discovery, offering total immersion in another universe. However, Disneyland Paris holds a special place in our hearts, particularly for its iconic universe and incomparable storytelling.

In conclusion, we highly recommend Phantasialand, and particularly Wintertraum, to all theme park enthusiasts. It's an experience to live at least once, and we advise you to plan two days to fully enjoy everything the park has to offer. Don't hesitate to visit the park in different seasons to discover all its facets, especially water rides like Chiapas and River Quest in the summer. And you, what's your favorite theme park?
