The European theme park landscape is about to undergo a major transformation. In 2028, Parc Astérix, located north of Paris, is set to unveil an ambitious new themed area and a series of innovative attractions, promising a renewed immersive experience for its visitors. This development is part of a continuous growth dynamic for the park, which has already seen the successful opening of major attractions in recent years, such as Toutatis and Gerslauer in 2023.
A Future Full of Adrenaline: The New Intamin Multidimensional Roller Coasters
At the heart of this expansion is the highly anticipated addition of indoor Intamin multidimensional roller coasters. Inspired by world-renowned attractions such as "Uncharted" or "Gringotts", this new feature promises a perfect balance between thrilling roller coaster elements and rich, immersive theming. Intamin's multidimensional propulsion system is renowned for its ability to create unique narrative experiences, particularly through backward segments and track pivots that manipulate the vehicle's direction without passengers fully realizing it.
The revealed specifications suggest a track length of approximately 792 meters (2600 feet) and a maximum height of 18 meters (60 feet). Five trains, each carrying 12 people, will allow for an hourly capacity of approximately 1,000 people. The attraction will be housed in an impressive 6,000 square meter (65,000 square foot) building, ensuring an entirely covered experience, ideal for cooler seasons. With a height requirement of approximately 107 cm (42 inches), these roller coasters are set to be very accessible for families.
It is anticipated that the experience will focus on storytelling, with the first half of the ride serving to build the plot and the second half dedicated to the thrills of the roller coaster. Animatronics of the comic strip characters that inspire the park are hoped for to further enhance the immersion.
Welcome to "Londonium": A New Immersive Themed Area
The 2028 expansion is not limited to a single attraction. The park will undertake a major transformation by replacing the current Paris section with a brand new London-inspired themed area, named "Londonium".
The "Londonium" area will be directly inspired by the 1966 comic book "Asterix in Britain" and promises an exceptional level of detail. Revealed concept art has highlighted a complete village, divided into two distinct zones.
In addition to the Intamin roller coaster, "Londonium" will host a multitude of new attractions and services:
- Haunted House: An attraction to thrill and explore the mysterious corners of London.
- Interactive Dark Ride: A first for the park, this dark ride will be designed by ALTERFACE, a company renowned for its interactive media in attractions such as "Vulcanoo" at Lost Island and "Benno's Great Race" at Ferrari World. It will be an interactive shooting experience, blending practical effects and screens, where visitors can accumulate points. The focus will be on careful immersion, hopefully with real sets to avoid excessive reliance on screens.
- Outdoor children's playground: For the youngest visitors, offering a suitable entertainment space.
- 500-seat restaurant: A large establishment to satisfy food lovers, replacing the current fruit-themed restaurant. One can expect British-inspired culinary offerings, with traditional dishes such as fish and chips or bangers and mash.
- Speakeasy and skill games: Additional entertainment options to complement the area's offerings.
Uninterrupted Growth and Loyalty to Partners
This major investment is part of a series of continuous improvements to the park. Following the successful opening of Toutatis and the Gerslauer spinning roller coaster this year, the park also plans to expand its Greek section with new flat rides next year. This constant expansion testifies to the park's popularity, which attracts a large clientele, particularly due to its proximity to Paris and Disneyland.
The park's strong relationship with Intamin is also highlighted by this new project, suggesting the success of previous collaborations such as Toutatis. This loyalty to quality attraction manufacturers ensures high-level experiences for visitors.
The "Londonium" project and its new attractions represent a significant step in the evolution of Parc Astérix, promising an enriched and diversified experience for years to come. Fans eagerly await the opening of this new era of entertainment in 2028.
