Festyland 2026: The complete guide to the Normandy theme park and the Valkyrie review

See on YouTube

Nestled on the outskirts of Caen, in the commune of Bretteville-sur-Odon, Festyland has established itself for many years as Normandy's leading amusement park. The site is distinguished by an original layout linked to its origins: established on the site of a former car scrapyard, the park has successfully capitalized on its space constraints to design a compact, heavily wooded, and well-structured layout. Access to the park is already a logistical and architectural singularity in itself: visitors park in a dedicated parking lot and then take a pedestrian underpass running beneath a road to emerge directly onto the entrance esplanade.

The park is themed around regional heritage and history, featuring several themed areas rich in Norman references: the medieval world (with the conquest of William the Conqueror in 1066), the Viking universe, pirates, and family areas dedicated to prehistory.

Valkyrie: The major new coaster of the 2026 season

To enrich its family thrill offering, Festyland inaugurated Valkyrie in 2026, a Junior Boomerang roller coaster designed by the Dutch manufacturer Vekoma. Positioned at the heart of the Viking zone, the attraction stands out for its remarkable landscaping and thematic integration efforts for a regional park of this scale.

Features and ride experience

The Vekoma Junior Boomerang is a model renowned for its operational efficiency and its appeal to a wide audience. The train, pulled backward along a cable up a first lift hill, is released to complete the course forward for the first time, passing through the station at full speed before tackling a vertical spike. It then completes the entire journey in reverse.

Train design

The vehicles feature a meticulous finish, with a figurehead shaped like a Valkyrie helmet at the front and winged elements at the back, ensuring an excellent level of comfort and restraint.

Boarding area and queue line

The station benefits from elaborate architecture incorporating woodwork, carved details, and decorative armor, accompanied by a custom soundscape that enhances immersion right from the queue.

On-track sensations

The layout offers smooth yet dynamic accelerations. The front of the train prioritizes visibility and the sensation of height when ascending the spike, while the back offers more intense sensations during the drops and speed transitions.

Must-see attractions and themed areas

1066 and the medieval universe

Inspired by the famous Battle of Hastings, this area is home to 1066 - Spirit of Conqueror, a steel roller coaster built by the manufacturer Soquet. Characterized by a steep first drop and a winding layout through the vegetation, the attraction leads to a themed gift shop integrated into the medieval style.

Kaskade and water attractions

The park's flagship water attraction is Kaskade, a compact hydrolift ride featuring a vertical elevator. The circular boats are hoisted before being released into a winding slide, generating significant spinning and water splashes, making it one of the most popular attractions during hot weather.

Thrills and children's areas

For fans of more intense spinning, the park offers Hérétique, a Gerbotron-type ride. The area also includes the Dinosaur Valley for themed walks, as well as interactive play structures and light ropes courses like Bifrost Aventure.

Dining, services, and visiting tips

Festyland stands out positively for the management of its dining options. Unlike many parks of a similar size that rely exclusively on industrial fast food, the park offers a diversified quick-service dining area with freshly prepared sandwiches, a salad bar, and homemade desserts at an affordable price.

To optimize your day, it is recommended to prioritize access to attractions with limited capacity (such as Kaskade) in the early morning or during lunch hours. The park's proximity to the city of Caen makes it easy to combine a day of leisure with a cultural visit to the historic center and the Caen Memorial.

Our opinion on Festyland's momentum in 2026

The arrival of Valkyrie marks a milestone for Festyland in upgrading its facilities. By partnering with a renowned manufacturer like Vekoma and paying close attention to scenography and sound immersion, the Norman park proves that a human-sized regional structure can offer high-quality and competitive new attractions. Between successful redevelopments, a balanced culinary offering, and efficient space management, Festyland confirms its status as a must-visit family destination in Western France.
