Since our last visit in 2019, Europa-Park has constantly renewed itself and surprised its visitors. The German park has introduced numerous new features to offer ever more immersive and thrilling experiences. Between new attractions, careful theming, and seasonal events, Europa-Park confirms its status as a benchmark in the world of amusement parks. And it is undoubtedly with Voltron, its latest addition, that the park reaches new heights in terms of thrills.
New additions since 2019
Besides Voltron, Europa-Park has introduced many other new features since 2019. The Rulantica water park opened its doors, offering a unique experience at the heart of Nordic mythology. New themed areas have also emerged, such as the Scandinavian quarter, entirely redesigned. Visitors have also been able to discover new attractions for all ages, breathtaking shows, and ever richer seasonal events.
Snorri Tourren
Snorri is the emblem of Rulantica; this cute new little character now has his own attraction. It's a dark ride with nice effects and a small dynamic cinema section. It explains a bit about the different characters you find in the water park and gives you some details about the universe.
Castello dei Medici
The old Geistershloss has been renovated. The ride system of course remains the same, but new effects have been added. It's rather disappointing to be honest because you go through well-executed moments and others that are very old-fashioned, which is a shame. The queue area has also been updated with more modern technologies.
The Cancan Coaster
This was the very, very good surprise of the visit. Right from the queue, the tone is set with nice decoration and little nods to Eurosat. It's well done. Once on board, from the lift hill, the music filled me with emotion, and I was completely immersed in the universe. The unveiling of the Eiffel Tower is well-placed, and this little reference to Georges Méliès with the moon welcoming us is just amazing. After that, it's extremely smooth. The décors follow one another, but a part seemed missing. For us, this retheming is flawless; we loved it!
Piraten in Batavia
This boat dark ride has been rebuilt following the fire and is of a very high standard. There are still a few animatronics that look old, but overall, there is so much to look at that you need several rides to see all the details. The queue is superb and reminiscent of Efteling's Flying Dutchman. The few screen effects are well-integrated, as are the projections.
Rulantica, Europa Park's water park
We were also able to test the Rulantica water park. After having visited parks of this type in the USA, we were a little afraid of the comparison, but no, here too, Europa Park makes a strong impression. It's super well organized, it's very beautiful (much better in person than in photos). The diversity of slides is perfect for families.
We took an evening ticket, and the price is comparable to a Bellewaerde Aquapark, and the comparison stops there. If you can test Rulantica during your stay, go for it!
Focus on Voltron, the multi launch coaster
Naturally, we also went to Europa Park to test Voltron. The hype has died down, and the queues are also more reasonable. The new area is really nice, although a bit small. We really liked the spots behind the attraction for a different perspective on the ride.
The outdoor queue area is of little interest, except for the water cylinder which remains impressive. The universe is much more present in the indoor queue with the presence of Mr. Tesla :) A screen shows you the vehicle arriving on one side via video, and on the other, you can see the vehicles departing. At times, an electrode "concert" starts up; the effects are nice, but it really makes the place super noisy, and the wait only gets longer.
Operation-wise, it runs smoothly. With the use of a continuous moving walkway, boarding is efficient, and the queue still moves quickly. The locker system is also well thought out, using the card and the possibility to retrieve your belongings after exiting the attraction. It's less drastic than Fly, but you find a bit of steampunk and a security check. Okay, nothing left in the pockets, so let's go, let's get on board.
The trains are comfortable, which is fortunate because the ride will really shake you up. The start with that vertical propulsion is amazing, but from the very first hill, you hold on because it starts to shake. The elements link together super quickly until the launch section where you catch your breath a little before again having too many elements linked together, very close and certainly too close.
Is it good? Yes, you have to ride it; it's well done, efficient. Can you ride it back-to-back? Our opinion is no; it gives you a terrible headache, and it's not pleasant. We may not have gotten the good trains, but in any case, this same circuit but with more amplitude would make it so much more enjoyable.
Summary of our Europa Park visit
We took the time to visit the park because we had taken 2 days, and honestly, we loved it. With a good knowledge of the park, and surprisingly few people finally, it was super enjoyable. The food was good and offered good value for money.
From parking management to attractions, operations are truly precise; everything is super fluid.
Is the park the best in the world? It's part of them, but it has such a diversity of attractions with a price that is still very far from the prices charged by other international parks that it holds a very good place in our ranking of parks to visit in one's lifetime.
We look forward to seeing what's next and will gladly return, and this time, why not stay in one of the park's hotels to extend the experience.
