Splash Mountain re-themed!

Disney has just officially announced it. The iconic attraction Splash Mountain at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World will change its theme to adapt it to an animated film from 2009... The chosen theme is taken from the animated film The Princess and the Frog (The Princess And The Frog).

The log flume attraction has recently received numerous criticisms and petitions to be transformed. Online debates have fueled and certainly accelerated the communication of this project because the story told in this attraction references a highly controversial 1940 film called "Song Of The South".

This new version aims to be more inclusive so that all guests visiting the Disney theme parks feel connected to this story.

No date has yet been announced for the start of the work or an opening. Upon the reopening of the parks following the coronavirus, visitors will still be able to ride the attraction as it exists for a few more weeks before its transformation.

Disney has been working on this retheming since last year. In the coming months, the Imagineers will visit the two theme parks to create digital reconstructions of the attractions and work more concretely on the elements to be modified.

The project team will be led by Charita Carter, who notably worked on Mickey And Minnie Runaway Railway, the dark ride that opened this year at Disney's Hollywood Studios and is set to open in 2022 at Disneyland. In a statement, Charita indicates that just like Princess Tiana, courage and love are the key ingredients for an extraordinary adventure. She promises us a fun experience that will delight visitors.

Tony Baxter, who participated in the creation of the Splash Mountain attraction, will also be on the team as a creative consultant. He looks forward to collaborating on these changes.

With the Dark Ride sections of this log flume, new technologies, and Charita leading the project, there is a good chance that this transformation will be very successful.

This new theming will be an extension of the story of The Princess and the Frog, picking up right after the final kiss between Princess Tiana and Prince Naveen. The new story will invite you to join Tiana and Louis, the trumpet-playing alligator, as he prepares for a new performance during Mardi Gras.

The actress who voices the princess will also return for new recordings specific to this new narrative.
